2015 ADELAIDE FASHION FESTIVAL LAUNCH ANNOUNCEMENT
On Monday afternoon, journalists and bloggers gathered in Hindmarsh Square to hear a special announcement by South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill regarding the 2015 Adelaide Fashion Festival. The Festival is under new direction this year as it moves from the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters to a more central location in the heart of Adelaide City.
Come October, Hindmarsh Square will become a functional runway along with other locations, including the return to King William Road for the popular Variety on King William parade. This years Fashion Festival is set to feature 22 local designers in its condensed but jam-packed four day schedule. The aim of this Festival is to project our local, talented designers and labels to the national and international spotlight.
The runway shows will include local favourites Sally Phillips, Liza Emanuele, Caspel&Pearl (Fresh from MBFWA) and edgy cool-girl label Scott&Scare.
A Night of Fashion at the Art Gallery is also returning as part of the Festival and the four days will conclude with a stunning grand finale featuring Paul Vasileff's 2016 International collection for his label Paulo Sebastian.
The State Government announced they were investing $2 million into the Adelaide Fashion Festival over four years. This will help South Australia to be an appealing travel destination for international and domestic travellers.
Many designers involved are producing new collections to be showcased at the event with Australian Fashion Label's newest kid on the block, TY-LR by Chris Kontos launching at an exclusive invite only event last night at Sean's Kitchen.
Another highlight of the Festival will be the Premier's Design Award for five final-year TAFE SA fashion design graduates who will be mentored by Kontos, Phillips, Vasileff, Emanuele and Tiff Manuel. The students will work alongside the local designers to produce an outfit to be showcased during the Festival.
“This is an amazing chance for us to develop our local design talent and have the Adelaide Fashion Festival create a legacy for development and mentoring within the industry.”
The winner will receive a 12 month industry mentoring program which will develop their skills and creativity further.
In other exciting news, Angelica Cheung, who is Vogue China's Editor in Chief and also a graduate of the University of Adelaide will be attending the festival as a special guest.
